- Is this music really royalty free?
- Yes, and it's free of charge too. Royalty free means you don't pay a royalty each time the music is used or played. Here there's no fee at all: all 343 tracks are Purrple Cat Self Releases licensed under CC BY 4.0, so the only thing you owe is a credit.
- What's the catch?
- There are two rules. Credit Purrple Cat wherever the music is used, and never re-upload or release the music on streaming services (Spotify, Apple Music and the rest, through a distributor or otherwise). That includes remixes, samples and covers, because those cause false Content ID claims for everyone else.
- Can I use it in monetised YouTube videos and Twitch streams?
- Yes. Monetised videos, streams and VODs are all fine with credit. Purrple Cat Self Releases have no Content ID, so there's nothing to clear or whitelist. If a false claim ever appears (usually from someone re-uploading the music where they shouldn't), report it and it's dealt with promptly.
- Can I use it commercially?
- Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use: ads, sponsored posts, client work, paid games and apps, business videos and background music in shops. Credit is still required.
- Do I need an account or a subscription?
- No. There's no sign-up, no plan and nothing to cancel. Listen here, download the MP3, credit, publish.
- How do I credit the music?
- Use the standard line: “Music: Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0”. Adding the track name is a nice touch, and a link to the licence where links are possible. Add tracks to the credit sheet on this page and it writes the whole block for you.
- Can I cut, loop or edit the tracks?
- Yes, for your own videos, streams, games and other projects. CC BY asks you to say that you changed it, so the credit sheet has an “edited” option. What you can't do is release a remix, sample or cover on streaming services.
- Are these the full tracks?
- Yes. Every player here plays the whole track, start to finish, and every track has a free MP3 download (192 kbps, tagged with the title, album and licence). The same releases are also on the official download pages: Internet Archive, Free Music Archive, itch.io, audio.com, Pixabay, OpenGameArt, Dogmazic and Bandcamp.
- How are tempo and feel worked out?
- Automatically, from the audio. Tempo is estimated twice with different methods; when both agree you'll see an approximate BPM, and when they don't you'll see a tempo band instead. Feel splits the catalogue into thirds by loudness: Soft, Medium and Full. Moods come from each album's theme. Treat them all as a guide and trust your ears.
- What does the music sound like?
- Dreamy chillwave and ambient downtempo lofi: soft piano, warm pads, deep sub-bass and slow, steady grooves. It's instrumental, so it sits well under a voice.
- Which music is in the library?
- All 34 Purrple Cat Self Releases, from Up All Night (2018) to City Nights 3 (2026), in Spotify's official track order. Music Purrple Cat released through other labels isn't listed here and may have different terms.
- Does this site track me?
- No. There are no cookies, analytics or ads. Your credit sheet and volume are saved only in your own browser, and Spotify players load only when you tap them.
